@bookiee8 I agree with you! It was horrible how Sr. started making him say where he's been. If he can't say, then he can't say. The important thing is that he got home. Jr. was right that his father was weak towards that pig farmer. It was horrible that he slapped him.

@ravensadancer what arniece08 is saying is that in those days black people especially had to be careful about being out during the night. Sometimes people just went out riding in the night looking for random blacks to prey upon just for fun. Junior missed his curfew by a mile and so his parents probably thought the worst. They probably thought that he might have been kidnapped, beaten, killed, or a combo of all three. And frankly, he could've been if Tolson didn't find him.

do some of ya'll not realize what era this was in..black people took things more serious unlike now-a-days such as curfew to keep themselves safe which is why his daddy and mama are so worried about him..this isn't like now where folks don't give a shit bout anything... |
